Z1 Nissan Z 3.0 Performance Heat Exchanger

For turbocharged cars like the Infiniti Q60 Coupe, managing heat is essential to maintaining consistent performance. Z1’s Performance Heat Exchanger for the 3.0t (VR30) platform improves the cooling efficiency of the intercooler system, helping maintain consistent charge air temperatures for optimal engine performance.

How does it work? On the 3.0t engine, the twin Garrett turbochargers feed two water-to-air intercoolers. These intercoolers have their own independent coolant system with the sole purpose of maintaining consistent charge air temperatures. Extreme conditions from drag racing, road racing, or even spirited driving produce excess heat. As intercooler temperatures rise so do charge air temperatures resulting in a loss of power and reduced engine performance. To deal with the excess heat Nissan elected to install a water-to-air heat exchanger behind the front bumper. The heat exchanger works just like the engine’s radiator, using air to cool the coolant inside of the core. A thorough analysis of the VR30’s cooling system has shown that the factory heat exchanger is ineffective at managing intercooler temperatures.

The increased size of Z1’s Performance Heat Exchanger dramatically improves the flow rate of the coolant, increasing efficiency and reducing stress on the coolant pump(s). In addition, the core thickness was doubled from 11mm to 22mm and the surface area was increased by over 200% to help dissipate heat quicker. High-capacity aluminum end tanks are welded to both ends of the core, providing an exceptional increase in cooling capacity and further increasing the thermal capacity of the system. Combining these benefits into one convenient package means your car will be able to maintain a higher level of performance for LONGER, no matter the conditions!

This performance heat exchanger is a direct replacement for the OE unit, requiring no modifications to the car or cooling system to install. To aid in the installation and bleeding process, an air bleed screw was added to the top of the end tank. Ensuring air is completely bled from the cooling system is essential to maximizing the performance of your intercooler’s coolant system!
